Hi there! I’m Maricar, wife to a wonderful husband, stay-at-home mommy to a happy little boy (who will soon have a brother), scrapbooker, scientist-on-hold and writer-in-the-making.

Professionally, I’m a plant scientist by training, with a Master’s Degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics. I’ve worked in the academe since I finished college, in both instruction and research. My single biggest hobby these days is scrapbooking (did I say that already?). I’ve also dabbled in cross-stitching, which I would like to go back to doing someday, in addition to crocheting and knitting and sewing… someday, someday…

For now, blogging is letting me explore and develop as a writer. My first professional blog was AboutWeblog’s Housekeeping and Homemaking Blog, now called Keeping the Castle under b5media. I’m also a contributor at The 80s Club and editor of my personal project Mom@Home.

Motherhood has given me a whole new perspective, and I’m eager to learn more as this journey unfolds. Being a SAHM, in particular, is an experience that I hope to share with other moms as well. Although I miss being in a scientific environment, this career choice has given me the chance to enjoy my family more, hone my homemaking skills and pursue other interests, like writing. It’s an exciting time in my life, and it’s promising to become even more so over time. I’m very happy to be part of eMothersOnline, and look forward to encouraging others and to being encouraged myself.

What’s the best advice you received on motherhood?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Perfectionism can bring out the best of me. It can also bring out the worst. I’m learning to be more relaxed and not to stress out over the insignificant events that can go wrong every day. In the long run, they are not what matter.

What do you love best about being a mother?
The love and attachment that comes from a child who is unique in all the world. Knowing that I am my child’s “Ma-meee” gives me joy I cannot express in words.
